Bhogi to Sankranthi – A Vibrant Celebration of Tradition @ Greenwood-Mancherial

Greenwood High School, Mancherial, celebrated the festival of Bhogi and Sankranthi (Pongal) with great enthusiasm, joy, and cultural richness. The celebration was thoughtfully organised under the able leadership and guidance of Principal Mr. R. Chandramohan and Vice Principal Mr. G. Thirupathi. The programme beautifully showcased Indian traditions, rural culture, and festive values, making it a memorable experience for students, teachers, and parents.

The event was confidently and gracefully anchored by Ch. Tejaswi of Grade 10, who guided the audience smoothly through each segment of the programme. The celebration began on an auspicious note with Jyothi Prajwalana, ceremoniously lit by the Principal and Vice Principal, symbolizing positivity, knowledge, and a new beginning.

Fancy Dress Competition – A Major Highlight

One of the main attractions of the celebration was the Fancy Dress Competition, where young students appeared in colourful costumes representing mythological, cultural, and traditional characters. The confidence and expressions of the children won the hearts of everyone present.

  • From LKG, Hanika Nandan and Drithisri impressed the audience by portraying Goddadevi.
  • From UKG, K. Shivanmai appeared as Goddadevi, S. Nandan Patel as Haridasu, and D. Advik Sairam as a Farmer, receiving loud applause.
  • Grade 1 students brought various characters to life:
    • Dakshith as Kanthara
    • Nivishka as Lord Rama
    • Sreekshitha as Lord Venkateswara
    • Mayukha as Goddess Padmavathi
    • Shrinika as Alamelu Mangamma
    • Shanzay as Sodiamma
    • V. Shourya Vardhan as Lord Sri Krishna
  • From Grade 2, Shree Vaagmi as Goddadevi and Abhishta Shourya as Lord Venkateswara stood out.
  • Grade 3 student, Ahaan Shourya, also impressed the audience with his portrayal of Lord Venkateswara.



These wonderful performances were carefully prepared under the dedicated guidance of Mrs. Kavitha, Ms. Ch. Harika, Ms. Deekshitha, Mrs. B. Amitha, Mrs. P. Premalatha, Mrs. P. Sunitha, and Mrs. Tejaswini, whose efforts ensured confidence and discipline among the students.

Cultural Dance Performances

The celebration was further enriched with energetic and graceful dance performances.

  • Students from Grades 1 and 2Sreekshitha, Shrinika, Mayukha, Aadhya Patel, Chayanika, Zaheda, Manvika, Aarvi, Saanvi, Vivanya, Shanvitha, Aanya, Bhavani, and Jeccika — performed beautifully under the guidance of Mrs. Amitha, Mrs. P. Premalatha, and Mrs. P. Sunitha.
  • A special solo dance by Hasika of Grade 2 captivated the audience with her confidence and expressions.
  • The Grade 3 group dance, guided by Mrs. Tejaswini and Mrs. P. Sunitha, featured T. Aaradhya, M. Aarav, D. Virat Nandan, G. Harshith, B. Siddharth, J. Riyansh, G. Shree Nandan, A. Rudrasai, J. Harsha Nayak, G. Ahaan Shourya, and P. Sai Keithik, earning loud appreciation.

Traditional Activities and Rural Atmosphere

Traditional customs added special charm to the celebration. Bhogipallu was conducted for pre-primary children, filling the campus with joy and excitement. A cheerful kite festival for boys reflected the true spirit of Sankranthi.

A symbolic Bhogi bonfire, lit by the Principal and Vice Principal, marked the importance of new beginnings. Around the bonfire, all the girl students danced joyfully, celebrating the spirit of Bhogi.

The school campus was beautifully transformed into a traditional village setting with huts and rural décor, creatively designed by Art Teacher Mr. J. Suresh. His artwork brought the village atmosphere to life and received special appreciation from parents and staff.

Parents thoroughly enjoyed the programme, applauded the performances, and captured beautiful memories at the selfie point arranged on the campus.
