Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion at Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, Hanumakonda. The entire school was abuzz with preparations, as students gathered at 2:30 pm to decorate the premises with vibrant flowers, twinkling lights, and images of Lord Krishna. Elaborate scenes from Krishna’s life, known as ‘jhulans’ or ‘jhankis,’ were displayed, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The celebrations commenced at 3:00 pm with ceremonial prayers and a pooja, performed by Mr. M. Ranga Rao, the Maths Teacher. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Honourable Director, Sri. Dr.G. Bharadwaja Naidu; General Manager, Sri. A. Prabhu Kumar; Administrative Principal, Sri. T. Pavan Kumar; Vice Principal, Sri. V. Suresh Kumar; and Academic Coordinator, Smt. P. Kanthi, along with other esteemed guests. The dignitaries’ presence added a special significance to the occasion.
Cultural performances were a highlight of the day, with girls performing traditional dances as Gopikas, bringing alive the spirit of Vrindavan. Following the pooja, the festivities were held separately for boys and girls—the boys in the school ground and the girls on the lawn. A key event of the celebration was the “Dahi Handi,” where students attempted to break a pot of curd hung high in the air, symbolizing Lord Krishna’s love for butter.
Separate arrangements were made for juniors and seniors among the girls, and for different age groups among the boys, ensuring that everyone could participate and enjoy the event. This lively and engaging activity, conducted by the class teachers, lasted until 5:30 pm and was a source of great enjoyment for the children. Mr. T. Vijakanth, the teacher of English made live commentary and announcements on loud speakers for this event, which brought a great thrill and enjoyment among all.

Ramesh, the Telugu teacher, in the school’s open auditorium. The devotional singing created a serene and spiritual ambiance, concluding the day’s festivities on a harmonious note.
