Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, celebrated the vibrant festival of Sankranti with great enthusiasm on 9th January 2025. The day was filled with colorful activities, including Bhogi Mantalu in the morning and Bhogi Pallu in the evening. The celebrations showcased a perfect blend of tradition and joy, highlighting the importance of this cultural event.
Morning Celebrations: Bhogi Mantalu
The day began with the traditional Bhogi Mantalu, where students participated in three sessions:




The bonfire symbolized letting go of negativity and welcoming prosperity. Sankranti music played in the background, and students danced joyfully, spreading energy and excitement throughout the morning.



Evening Celebrations: Pooja and Bhogi Pallu
In the evening, the Bhogi Pallu ceremony was held, preceded by a small pooja to Lord Sri Krishna. The pooja, performed with devotion, reminded everyone of the divine blessings sought during Sankranti, a festival deeply rooted in spirituality and agrarian traditions. Students, teachers, and guests participated in this sacred ritual, reflecting on the importance of gratitude and togetherness in life.







Following the pooja, younger students were showered with fruits, flowers, and coins as a gesture of blessings and good fortune. The lively music and cheerful dancing added to the festive mood, creating a vibrant and memorable atmosphere for everyone present.
Guests’ Participation
The celebrations were graced by the presence of Director Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu, General Manager Sri. A. Prabhu Kumar, Academic Principal Mr. V.V.V. Naveen Kumar, Administrative Principal Mr. T. Pavan Kumar, Vice Principal Mr. V. Suresh Kumar, and Academic Coordinator Mrs. P. Kanthi. The esteemed guests actively engaged with students and teachers, participating in the pooja and festivities, and appreciating the school’s efforts in preserving and promoting cultural traditions. Their presence added prestige and joy to the event.
Art Club’s Creative Setup
The school’s Art Club, under the mentorship of Art Teacher Banaja Sahoo and Santosh Rao, played a pivotal role in enhancing the celebrations. Their creative setups vividly captured the essence of Sankranti and included:
- Women drawing colorful Rangoli patterns, symbolizing the artistic traditions of Indian households during the festival.
- A traditional Hari Dasu figure, reflecting devotion and cultural heritage.
- Bullock carts, roosters and rural village scenes, portraying the agrarian roots of Sankranti.
- Vibrant kites, embodying the joy and excitement of the festival.












These beautifully crafted scenes became the highlight of the celebrations, appreciated by students, teachers, and guests alike.
The Sankranti celebrations at Greenwood High School were a grand success. The events reflected the rich cultural heritage of the festival, blending devotion, creativity, and fun. The students, teachers, and guests thoroughly enjoyed the festivities, making it a day to cherish and remember.
