The Power of Words: Why Learning Spellings and Meanings Matters

The Power of Words

Why Learning Spellings and Meanings Matters

Dear Students and Parents,

In our journey of learning, words are our most powerful tools. They shape our thoughts, express our ideas, and connect us with the world around us. Yet, in today’s fast-paced digital age, we often overlook the foundation of good communication — knowing how to spell words correctly and understanding their meanings deeply.

Learning spellings is not just about memorizing letters in the right order. It is about developing accuracy, discipline, and attention to detail. When students learn to spell correctly, they build confidence in writing, reading, and speaking. A well-spelled word reflects care and clarity — qualities that go beyond academics and play a vital role in life.

Equally important is understanding the meaning of words. Vocabulary is the heart of language. The more words we know, the better we can express our thoughts, emotions, and creativity. A rich vocabulary helps students comprehend lessons more effectively, communicate with confidence, and think critically.

Parents can support this skill at home by encouraging children to read daily, play word games, and use new words in conversations. Students, on their part, should make it a habit to note unfamiliar words, learn their spellings, meanings, and use them in sentences.

Let us all remember — every great writer, speaker, and thinker began by learning the meaning of words and the art of spelling them right. It’s not just a classroom activity; it’s a lifelong skill that opens doors to knowledge and success.

Together, let’s make words our strength.

Word- The strongest weapon

Word-

The strongest weapon

From Greenwood High School – Hasanparthy

Diwali Shines Bright @ Greenwood — With Nature in Mind

The sparkling celebration of Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, was held with great devotion and enthusiasm at Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, Hanumakonda, on October 20, 2025. The celebration beautifully captured the spirit of joy, fervour and cultural heritage while spreading a strong message of environmental responsibility. This year, the school chose to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner, without burning crackers, to show concern and care for nature.

Reason for Celebrating Diwali

Diwali is one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals in India. It marks the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Across the country, homes are illuminated with lamps, and families come together to share happiness and blessings.

For Hindus, it signifies the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile. For Jains, it marks Lord Mahavira’s attainment of nirvana, and for Sikhs, it is celebrated as Bandi Chhor Divas, commemorating the release of Guru Hargobind Ji.
The festival also includes the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, who is believed to visit homes that are neat, bright, and filled with devotion.

Historical and Mythological Connections

Diwali has many legends associated with it. The story of Lord Krishna and the demon Narakasura is one of the most well-known. Narakasura, a powerful demon king, caused great suffering in the world. Lord Krishna, with the help of his consort Satyabhama, defeated him and freed the captives, bringing peace and joy to the people. This victory is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi, which precedes the main day of Diwali, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness.

Celebrations at Greenwood

The celebrations at Greenwood School began with the decoration of the campus using colourful rangolis, traditional lamps, and bright floral patterns. The entire school was filled with a festive atmosphere, radiating warmth and happiness.
A special Puja was performed to seek the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi symbolizing wealth, wisdom, and purity. Students and teachers participated with devotion, offering prayers and singing bhajans, creating a spiritually enriching environment.

Creative and Eco-Friendly Activities

This year, Greenwood students celebrated Diwali in an eco-friendly way. Instead of burning crackers, they focused on spreading light through creativity and care for the environment. Workshops were organized for students to make diyas, greeting cards, and decorative items using clay, paper, and natural materials.

Our School Director Sri .Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu shared thoughts on reducing pollution, using eco-friendly decorations, and celebrating festivals responsibly. The message of “Clean, Green, and Safe Diwali” was highlighted throughout the celebration.

Sharing Festive Joy

Traditional sweets were distributed among students and staff, spreading happiness and togetherness. The management appreciated the students for their active participation and responsible approach to celebrating the festival. The day concluded with heartfelt greetings and cheerful smiles all around, truly symbolizing the essence of Diwali.

Leadership and Guidance

Our Honourable Director – Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu General Manager – Sri. A. Prabhu Kumar, Academic Principal – Sri. V. V. V. Naveen Kumar, Administrative Principal – Sri. T. Pavan Kumar, and Vice Principal – Sri. V. Suresh Kumar took active part in guiding and motivating teachers, staff, and students. Their encouragement and presence .made the celebration more meaningful and memorable.

The Diwali Celebration at Greenwood High School was not only a festival of lights but also a celebration of awareness and responsibility. By avoiding crackers, students demonstrated their concern for nature and the environment. The day helped everyone understand that the true light of Diwali shines from within — through good deeds, unity, and happiness. It was indeed a memorable occasion that blended tradition, culture, and environmental care in perfect harmony.

Art Integration in Schools – Learning with Joy!

Art Integration in Schools

Learning with Joy!

Have you ever painted a picture to explain a story? Or sung a song to remember a science concept? That’s exactly what Art Integration means! It is a way of teaching where art is not only a subject of its own, but also a tool to make other subjects easier and more enjoyable.

Instead of just reading and memorizing, children get to draw, act, sing, dance, and create – while learning important lessons in Math’s, Science, Social Studies, and Languages.

Why do we need Art Integration?

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and CBSE guidelines tell schools to bring more art into classrooms. The reason is simple: art makes learning joyful.

When children express ideas through drawing, drama, music, or crafts, they understand the topic better and remember it longer.

Art also builds important life skills: creativity, teamwork, confidence, and respect for culture.

How does it help students?

Better learning: A history lesson can become a play; a science concept can be shown through a model or dance.

More fun in class: Children enjoy learning when they are active and creative.

Cultural pride: Using local art forms and traditions in projects helps students connect with their roots, and also learn about the art of other states through the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme.

All-round growth: Along with knowledge, students also grow socially and emotionally.

What does CBSE say?

CBSE has made art-integrated learning an important part of school work:

Every student from Class I to X must take part in at least one art-integrated project in each subject during the year.

At least one project should include the art form of a paired State/Union Territory to encourage cultural exchange.

These projects are not extra work – they are part of the internal assessment and help children show what they have learnt in creative ways.

How can we do this in school?

  1. Projects and Models – For example, making posters about water conservation in Science, or drawing maps and folk art in Social Studies.
  2. Storytelling and Drama – Acting out a lesson from English or History.
  3. Music and Dance – Using rhythm, songs, or dance steps to explain concepts.
  4. Clubs and Celebrations – Art, drama, and music clubs, as well as exhibitions during annual functions and festivals.
  1. Teacher–student teamwork – Subject teachers and art teachers working together to plan activities.
  • In Simple Words…
  • Art Integration makes classrooms happy places! It helps children:
  • Learn with interest
  • Express themselves freely
  • Discover their culture
  • Grow into confident, creative individuals
  • When art and academics go hand in hand, learning becomes not just about marks, but about joy, imagination, and life-long skills.

“When children learn with art, they don’t just study lessons – they experience them.”

As part of their environmental awareness drive, the students spread meaningful messages on the harmful effects of plastic usage and encouraged the public to use eco-friendly cloth and jute bags instead. They also carried colorful placards with creative slogans, inspiring everyone to “say no to plastic” and adopt sustainable practices.

In addition, the children learned to identify various vegetables and discovered their nutritional importance in maintaining a healthy diet. This hands-on experience allowed them to connect classroom learning with real-world understanding, nurturing values of social responsibility and environmental consciousness.

The school management appreciated the enthusiasm and active participation of the students.
Directors Sri. G. Bharadwaj Naidu and GM A. Mr.Prabhu Kumar, Principal Mrs. Manjula Devi and Coordinator Mrs. Rajeshwari encouraged and supported the initiative wholeheartedly. Vice Principal Mr. Srikanth led the event along with the Grade II teachers, whose dedicated efforts made the program a resounding success.

Such experiential learning opportunities truly reflect Greenwood High School’s commitment to nurturing curious minds, responsible citizens and environmentally conscious young learners.
