Student elections in schools are not just fun activities — they are a great way for students to learn how real elections work. In CBSE schools, students often vote to choose their Head Boy, Head Girl, House Captains, and other student leaders. These elections give young learners a chance to understand the meaning and purpose of voting and leadership. They also prepare them to become responsible voters and citizens in the future.
In India, we live in a democracy where people choose their leaders through elections. Student elections give us a small example of this big idea. Just like in national elections, students vote to choose the best person for the role. This helps them understand that every vote counts, and everyone’s opinion matters.
The main purpose of school elections is to select student leaders who will represent the student body. The Head Boy and Head Girl are expected to be role models. They help in organising school events, encourage discipline, and become a link between the students and teachers. House Captains and Vice-Captains lead their houses in sports, cultural activities, and competitions. Through this, students learn that leaders must be hardworking, fair, and helpful—not just popular.
When students take part in these elections, they gain many life skills. Those who stand for elections learn how to speak confidently, share their thoughts, and explain their ideas. They also learn to respect others’ views and work as a team. Win or lose, they gain valuable experience. On the other side, students who vote learn to listen carefully, think wisely, and choose the best person for the job. This teaches the qualities of a good voter.
Elections in school also follow certain steps. First, candidates are announced. Then, they campaign by giving speeches or preparing posters. After that, students cast their votes in a fair and secret way. This entire process helps children understand how elections are conducted in real life. It also teaches them the value of honesty, fairness, and following rules.
Student elections also help in building strong leaders. The elected Head Boy, Head Girl, and House Captains become more confident and responsible. They learn how to lead others, solve problems, and support their classmates. These are all important skills that will help them in the future

Bonalu Celebrations @Mancherial Greenwood

The Bonalu celebrations at Greenwood High School, Mancherial branch were conducted in a grand and traditional manner under the guidance of Principal Mr. R. Chandramohan and Vice Principal Mr. G. Thirupathi.
In the morning session, teachers *Mrs. M. Soujanya Latha, Mrs. N. Sailaja, Mrs. P. Rajitha, and *Assistant Mrs. Bhagya prepared paayasam as part of the traditional offering to the goddess. At the same time, Mr. J. Suresh Kumar, Mrs. P. Sunitha, Mrs. D. Sheethal, and Mrs. Tejaswi took the responsibility of decorating the Bonam pots beautifully, adding to the festive spirit.
After the preparations, students from classes 6 to 10 participated in a rally to bring awareness about the *significance of the Bonalu festival. Later, the **students of classes 9 and 10, along with their teachers, Vice Principal, and Principal, visited Gandhari Maisamma Temple. There, they offered *pooja with devotion and sought the blessings of the Goddess for the well-being of everyone.
In the *afternoon session, all the students and teachers assembled on the school ground to witness and enjoy various cultural programs organised to mark the occasion. The program started with a **dance performance by the 4th and 5th-grade girls. This was followed by a *melodious song presented by Vihika from Grade 2.
Next, students from *grades 6 and 7 presented a lively dance performance, after which **Unnathi and Srinithya delivered speeches in Telugu, highlighting the importance of the festival. Following this, *8th-grade students performed a traditional dance.

*Anuradha Kumari from Grade 6 delivered a speech in Hindi, explaining the cultural significance of Bonalu. Later, **9th-grade students performed an energetic dance performance. After this, *Pranitha Sri from Grade 6 gave a speech in English on the importance of festivals in maintaining cultural traditions.
Further, Mr. Venkateshwarlu, a teacher, delivered a speech in Telugu appreciating the efforts of students and staff and reminding everyone of the importance of preserving such cultural traditions.
Finally, *Principal Mr. R. Chandramohan Sir addressed the gathering, sharing his thoughts on the significance of Bonalu and the values it imparts. The celebrations came to an end with a *Vote of Thanks by Vice Principal Mr. G. Thirupathi Sir, who appreciated everyone’s efforts in making the program successful and memorable.

The rains are lurching in the corner. With them, they bring a refreshing change to the environment. Trees look greener, the air feels cooler, and nature seems to rejoice. Children often love the rains – jumping in puddles, floating paper boats, and enjoying the cool breeze. Rainwater also helps refill rivers and lakes and gives relief from the summer heat. However, along with all the fun and beauty, the rainy season can also bring some health problems. So, it is important for all of us, especially school children, to be careful and stay healthy during this time.
Common Health Issues in the Rainy Season
During the monsoon, the chances of falling sick are higher. Waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera, and diarrhea can spread through contaminated water. Stagnant rainwater becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can spread diseases such as dengue and malaria. Colds, coughs, and viral fevers are also quite common in this season due to changes in weather and wet clothes.
How Can Children Stay Safe and Healthy?
There are some simple precautions we can take to enjoy the rains without falling sick.
Avoid getting wet in the rain: Although it’s tempting to run out and dance in the rain, it’s best to avoid getting wet. If you do get wet, make sure to dry yourself properly and change into clean clothes. Always wear a raincoat or carry an umbrella when you go out.
Keep your hands clean: Wash your hands regularly with soap, especially before eating anything. This helps prevent the spread of germs that can cause stomach infections.
Drink clean water: Always drink boiled or filtered water during the rainy season. Do not drink water from unknown sources like roadside taps or hand pumps.
Eat fresh and home-cooked food: Avoid eating street food during the rains as it may not be hygienic. Eat freshly cooked meals at home and wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.
Keep your surroundings clean: Make sure there is no stagnant water near your house or school. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in still water. Empty water from flowerpots, coolers, and buckets if not in use.
Wear dry and comfortable clothes: Damp clothes can cause skin problems and infections. Wear clean and dry cotton clothes that allow your skin to breathe.
Get enough rest: A healthy body fights off infections better. Sleep well, eat nutritious food, and keep yourself active with indoor games or simple exercises.
The rainy season is a wonderful time of the year, full of freshness and fun. By following these simple tips, we can make the most of this beautiful season without falling ill. Maintaining a balanced and healthy diet is essential for the overall development and well-being of students. Healthy food, rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fibers, plays a vital role in boosting immunity, improving brain function, increasing energy levels, and keeping the body strong and active. It helps students stay alert, focused in class, and perform better in academics and extracurricular activities. On the other hand, unhealthy food—such as chips, soft drinks, chocolates, and deep-fried items—is high in sugar, oil, salt, and empty calories. Regular consumption of these junk foods may lead to obesity, diabetes, heart problems, and poor digestion, even at a young age.
Many students have begun recognizing these effects. For example, Satwika from Class 6 says, “When I eat fruits, I feel active in class. But after eating chips or drinking soda, I feel sleepy and dull.” Similarly, R.Sanvi from Class 7 mentions, “One can of soft drink has more than 150 calories and offers no nutrition. I’ve started drinking lemon water instead, and it keeps me fresh.” These observations highlight the impact of food choices on daily life and academic performance.
To build awareness, it is important to understand the calorie content in common junk foods. A regular burger contains 500–600 calories, French fries have around 350 calories per 100 grams, and one chocolate bar contains nearly 300 calories. Even one scoop of ice cream can add up to 250 calories to your diet. Despite their taste, these items contribute very little nutritional value.
Encouraging students to choose fruits, vegetables, homemade snacks, and sufficient water intake instead of oily, sugary items can lead to lifelong healthy habits. As the famous saying goes, “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food” – a reminder that what we eat greatly impacts how we live. With elegance, energy, and a sense of purpose, Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, hosted its Investiture Ceremony on 14 July 2025 for the Academic Year 2025–26, marking the official induction of the newly elected Student Council. The day stood as a powerful testament to the school’s philosophy of empowering students through leadership opportunities and fostering responsibility at every stage of their academic journey.
Setting the Stage for Leadership
The school’s open auditorium transformed into a ceremonial space exuding pride and anticipation. Beautiful floral décor, a refined stage setup, and professional sound and lighting arrangements created the perfect ambiance for the momentous occasion. The seating was systematically arranged to accommodate dignitaries, faculty and students.

Ballots and Vision: Greenwood High School Youth Choose Their Leaders
Greenwood High School successfully conducted its democratic elections for the Head Boy and Head Girl on 28th June 2025. After a careful nomination process, two candidates each from the boys and girls were shortlisted and actively campaigned on June 26 and 27 through speeches and posters.
In a smooth and transparent election, boys voted for Head Boy and girls for Head Girl. The event was inaugurated by Director Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu and General Manager Sri. Mr. A. Prabhu Kumar. Principal Sri. Mrs. Manjula Ma’am and Vice Principal Mr. Srikanth Sir oversaw the process, supported by the Social Studies Department.
The election provided a hands-on experience in democracy, encouraging leadership and responsibility. The school now eagerly awaits the results, proud of all candidates who participated with enthusiasm and integrity.
On the 10th of July 2025, Greenwood High School proudly hosted its Investiture Ceremony — a prestigious event that marked the official induction of the newly elected Student Cabinet. The ceremony followed the Student Cabinet Elections held on the 28th of June, and symbolized the first bold step taken by our young leaders toward embracing responsibility and service.
Rooted in the values of leadership and accountability, the ceremony was conducted with great dignity and enthusiasm. It commenced with the administering of the oath, led by our Honorable Director, Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu, who inspired students with his powerful address. The National Flag was then hoisted by our esteemed Direct director sir, accompanied by Principal Mrs. Manjula Devi, General Manager Mr. A. Prabhu Kumar, and Vice Principal Mr. K. Srikanth, as the student body stood tall with pride and reverence for our nation.
