As we have entered into a new year, let’s just brainstorm, being elders, being parents, how could we have been better parents. Many a times, we elders will forget that our children will follow our actions rather than our words.

In such case, how could we be better role models than better speakers to our own kids?!

Here are the concepts of Japanese culture, which can help us to improve our life style and pattern, so that we could be the best role models to our children as well as to this generation students.

Japan is known as one of the best places to live as people of Japan understand what the correct way of living and its purpose behind.

# # Oubaitouri

Never compare yourself with anyone else. Everyone blossoms in their own time in different ways. Don’t judge yourself by someone else’s path.

ou” means – Cherry blossom, “Bai” means – Japanese Apricot blossom, “Tou” means – Peach blossom, “Ri” means – Japanese prime blossom.

These all flowers blooms in spring but have each uniqueness’s and individuality.

We can be just the way we are. We all have potential and should brush-up it. There is no single way to establish yourself. There are no people who are no chance to contribute to the world. We all are different, we are all equal.

# # Kaizen

Continuously improve. Constantly strive to improve across all areas of your life. Small changes accumulate and make all the difference.

# # Wabi-Sabi

Embrace imperfection. Nothing lasts, nothing is complete. Accept your own flaws and those of others. Find beauty in imperfection.

# # Gaman

Have dignity during duress. Hard times need to be met with emotional maturity and self-control. We need patience, perseverance and tolerance.

# # Ikigai

Know your reason for being. Define the reason you get up in the morning. Make it something you are good at, passionate about and that the world needs.

## Shikita ga nai

Accept and let go. Some things simple aren’t within our control. Accept what you cannot change and move on.

# # Shu-Ha-Ri

Don’t be wasteful. Everything deserves respect and gratitude. Recognize the value in what’s around you and don’t waste it.

# Kintsugi #

  • Shu: Learn the basics by following the teaching of one master. Imitating the work of great masters also falls in this stage.
  • Ha: Start experimenting, learn from masters and integrate the learning into the practice.
  • Ri: This stage focuses on innovation and adapting the learning to different situations.

Repair cracks with gold. Imperfections are a thing of beauty. The journeys we all take are golden. Our flaws are embellishments that make us more beautiful.

Show consideration for others. Life is better when we care for others. Be thoughtful. Build compassion.

Let’s try to adapt at least few from the above and be the best parents and mentors.

Years end is neither an end nor a beginning but a journey with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.
