Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations in greenwood high school

Erragattugutta ( Main Campus ) : Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, or Vinayaka Chavithi is a major festival commemorating the birth of the god Ganesha. This has been a nine-day long festival. This being the most loved festival of the children, it has become a tradition to celebrate this festival with lot of fervour and enthusiasm by the students of Greenwood inside the campus.
The festival is marked with the installation of a large size clay murti (idol) of Ganesha on the dais in the Greenwood Open Auditorium.

All the members of the Greenwood family were invited to take part in the puja. On the first day of this festival, both the directors of the school; Sri. Ch. Dharma Reddy and Sri Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu and the first ladies of the school; Smt. Ch. Jyothi and Smt. G. Padma Sri took part in the Puja along with the Academic Principal Sr. VVV Naveen Kumar and the Administrative Principal Sri T. Pavan Kumar , C.A.O A .Prabhu Kumar and several others.

Besides regular Pujas, every day in the evening a Bhajana (prayer with chanting and clapping) has been performed. Sri. Jampala Ramesh from the Department of Telugu had performed a Purana Kaalaakshepam in which many members of the staff and all the children took part. Sri Ramesh has taken a stories from our Ramayanam, Mahabharatham and Bhagavad Gita and imparted a sense of wisdom and knowledge among the children. It is no exaggeration if it is said that each day the children waited eagerly for this program.

The final day of this festival is known as the Nimmajjanam Day. Nimajjanam means the immersion of the Idol that has been worshiped on all these days during this festival. On this day in the evening the Idol of Lord Ganesh has been placed on an elevated platform of a motor vehicle. A procession of the students and staff followed Lord Ganesh around the school ground. Songs and dances were the main attraction of this procession. The children followed the Ganesha up to the main entrance of the Greenwood and from there the some of the Greenwood staff carried the procession upto a very big lake in Hasanparthy where the Idol was finally immersed.
