On the festive Sunday evening of 21st September 2025, Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, glowed with the vibrant colours and cultural spirit of Bathukamma, Telangana’s grand floral festival. The celebrations were graced by the School Directors, Sri. Challa Dharma Reddy and Sri. Dr. Girrem Bharadwaja Naidu, who adorned the occasion as esteemed chief guests.

Bathukamma: Telangana’s Floral Emblem
Bathukamma, meaning “Mother Goddess Alive,” is not just a festival but a deep-rooted cultural identity of Telangana. Celebrated during Sharath Ruthu, it marks the transition from the rainy season to autumn. Women and girls worship Goddess Maha Gauri with beautifully arranged flower stacks, symbolizing devotion, prosperity, and feminine strength.
The Floral Tower of Devotion
The central attraction of the festival is the seven-layered Bathukamma, designed to resemble a temple gopuram. Students and teachers collectively arranged these floral towers with seasonal blossoms like Gunugu, Tangedu, and Banthi. Beyond their beauty, these flowers also hold medicinal values, reflecting a perfect blend of tradition and nature.

Greenwood Ushers in the Festival Spirit
The celebrations began with a warm welcome by the Directors, who extended their festive greetings to students, parents, and staff. Their warm words infused the evening with joy, seamlessly connecting the Bathukamma celebrations to the upcoming Dussehra.

Songs, Dance, and Unity
The air resonated with the rhythmic Bathukamma songs sung by girl students as they circled around their floral creations. Their vibrant dances and melodious voices filled the campus with joy, recreating the traditional Telangana festive atmosphere. The Directors joined in, clapping and encouraging the students, turning the event into a celebration of true unity.

Learning Through Tradition
The festival was not just about celebration but also about cultural learning. Students were enlightened on the historical and spiritual essence of Bathukamma and its role in highlighting women’s devotion. The Directors emphasized how these age-old practices, when embraced alongside modern education, shape responsible and culturally rooted citizens of tomorrow.
