The sparkling celebration of Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, was held with great devotion and enthusiasm at Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, Hanumakonda, on October 20, 2025. The celebration beautifully captured the spirit of joy, fervour and cultural heritage while spreading a strong message of environmental responsibility. This year, the school chose to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner, without burning crackers, to show concern and care for nature.

Reason for Celebrating Diwali
Diwali is one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals in India. It marks the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Across the country, homes are illuminated with lamps, and families come together to share happiness and blessings.

For Hindus, it signifies the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile. For Jains, it marks Lord Mahavira’s attainment of nirvana, and for Sikhs, it is celebrated as Bandi Chhor Divas, commemorating the release of Guru Hargobind Ji.
The festival also includes the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, who is believed to visit homes that are neat, bright, and filled with devotion.

Historical and Mythological Connections
Diwali has many legends associated with it. The story of Lord Krishna and the demon Narakasura is one of the most well-known. Narakasura, a powerful demon king, caused great suffering in the world. Lord Krishna, with the help of his consort Satyabhama, defeated him and freed the captives, bringing peace and joy to the people. This victory is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi, which precedes the main day of Diwali, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness.

Celebrations at Greenwood
The celebrations at Greenwood School began with the decoration of the campus using colourful rangolis, traditional lamps, and bright floral patterns. The entire school was filled with a festive atmosphere, radiating warmth and happiness.
A special Puja was performed to seek the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswathi, symbolizing wealth, wisdom, and purity. Students and teachers participated with devotion, offering prayers and singing bhajans, creating a spiritually enriching environment.

A cultural programme followed, featuring energetic dances, expressive skits, and melodious songs based on the themes of Diwali. These performances reflected the values of faith, victory, and unity, making the day vibrant and memorable.

Creative and Eco-Friendly Activities
This year, Greenwood students celebrated Diwali in an eco-friendly way. Instead of burning crackers, they focused on spreading light through creativity and care for the environment.
