A Cultural Canvas with Rangoli Radiance

Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, hosted an Inter-House Rangoli Making Competition to celebrate the Sankranthi Festival on 5th January 2025. The event was a vibrant and exciting experience for our enthusiastic girl students from classes VII to X. They participated with great zeal, showcasing their creativity, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. The competition provided a platform for students to express themselves through the traditional art form of Rangoli, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of India.

Significance of Rangoli Making

Rangoli making is a beautiful art form that involves creating intricate patterns using various materials such as powdered lime, red ochre, rice flour, colored sand, quartz powder, flower petals, colored rocks, and glitters. This traditional practice is an integral part of Indian culture, especially during festivals like Diwali, Tihar, Onam, Pongal, and Sankranthi. Rangoli designs are often passed down through generations, preserving the cultural legacy and connecting families.

Role of Rangoli During Sankranthi

Sankranthi, also known as Makar Sankranti, is a major harvest festival celebrated across India. During this festival, Rangoli plays a significant role in welcoming prosperity and happiness into homes. The vibrant designs are created at the entrance of houses to invite positive energy and ward off evil spirits. Rangoli patterns during Sankranthi often depict symbols of abundance, such as grains, flowers, and traditional motifs, reflecting the joy and gratitude of the harvest season.

The Rangoli competition’s seamless execution was made possible by the unwavering support and guidance of Greenwood’s leadership team, including Director Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu, General Manager Sri. A. Prabhu Kumar, Academic Principal Sri. V. V. V. Naveen Kumar, Administrative Principal Sri. T. Pavan Kumar, Vice Principal Sri . V. 24 Teams of girls participated in the competition, putting in tremendous effort and showcasing their artistic skills. Each student created Rangoli designs, reflecting their unique creativity and imagination. The themes ranged from traditional to contemporary, blending cultural heritage with modern aesthetics.

Henna Chronicles: Sankranti Elegance Lights Up Greenwood’s Mehndi Competition!

On January 3, 2025, Greenwood High School in Hasanparthy hosted a vibrant Mehndi competition for girls in grades 7 to 10 in celebration of the upcoming Sankranti Festival. Mehndi, also known as henna, is a paste made from the henna plant and is used for temporary body art. It is believed to bring positive vibes and good luck. The competition aimed to help students explore traditional values, express their artistic talents, and showcase their creativity through various Mehndi designs.

Mehndi holds a special place in Indian culture, blending medicinal properties with deep-seated sentiments and beliefs. The deeper the color of the Mehndi, the stronger the love and bond it symbolizes. The competition was not just about assessing drawing skills but also about appreciating creativity and unique expression, contributing to the overall personality development of the students.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from 35 students, who crafted intricate designs based on diverse themes. While some designs were rooted in tradition, others showcased modern and trendy interpretations. Pongal Celebrations at Greenwood High School, Gopalpur

Greenwood High School, Gopalpur, was filled with joy and enthusiasm as the vibrant festival of Pongal was celebrated with great zeal. The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed Director, Mr. Prabhu Kumar, and Mrs. Jyothi Dharma Reddy, whose presence added charm and significance to the festivities.

The celebrations began with a warm welcome extended by our Principal, Ms. Kavita Chawla, and the pre-primary students, setting the tone for the day’s events. The traditional Bogi Pannlu ceremony marked the beginning of the festival, where young students actively participated in this customary ritual. Director Sir delivered an inspiring message to the students, emphasizing the importance of preserving traditions and cherishing the essence of the harvest festival.

The occasion also saw the active involvement of parents, who were invited to participate and bless their children. It was heartwarming to witness the bond between parents and children as they came together to celebrate and share blessings, strengthening familial ties.

A special highlight was the lavish lunch organized by the management for the parents at the Gopalpur branch, adding to the warmth and hospitality of the celebration. Parents participated in the Bogi Pannlu ceremony alongside their children, making the event even more memorable.

The vibrant decorations across the campus, created by the dedicated efforts of the teachers, beautifully reflected the spirit of Pongal. Items symbolic of the festival adorned the school, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Adding to the excitement, the winners of the Rangoli competition, held a day prior, were announced, much to the delight of the parents and students.

The Sports Carnival at Greenwood High School, Gopalpur

Greenwood High School, Gopalpur, as we gather to celebrate our much-awaited Sports Carnival. This event promises excitement, energy, and enthusiasm as we witness the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork among our students.

The day began with the inauguration ceremony, which was graced by our beloved Director, Mr. Aakarsh. His inspiring words set the tone for the day, motivating everyone to participate with zeal and energy. Let us all thank him for his support and encouragement.

The first event of the day was the March Past, a perfect display of discipline and unity. Students from various houses marched to the beats of the drum, showcasing their synchronization and teamwork. Their coordinated steps and confident demeanor reflected the hard work and dedication they put into their preparation. It was truly a sight to behold and an excellent way to kick start the Sports Carnival.

Following this, the Drill with Hula Hoops performed by our energetic and talented primary students left everyone spellbound. The students demonstrated their coordination and precision by spinning and twirling their hoops gracefully, creating mesmerizing patterns. This drill highlighted the importance of fitness and the joy of engaging in physical activities.

Next came the adorable Pre-Primary Drill, where our youngest participants displayed their enthusiasm and energy. Their charming performances filled the atmosphere with cheer and excitement, proving that even the little ones have what it takes to shine on the sports field.

The games began with the Pre-Primary Games, where our youngest athletes participated in fun-filled events. The Running Race showcased their speed and determination as they raced to the finish line. In the Cone Balance, the participants carefully balanced cones while making their way to the finish, demonstrating focus and steady hands. The Zigzag Race tested their agility as they navigated through a zigzag course, much to the delight of the audience.

Moving on to the Primary Games, our older students competed in a variety of exciting events. The Running Race tested their speed and endurance, and the 4×100 Relay Running Race highlighted teamwork and precision as students passed the baton seamlessly. The Dodge Ball event was filled with strategy and quick reflexes, keeping everyone on their toes. The traditional Indian game of Kho Kho showcased speed, strategy, and teamwork, drawing loud cheers from the spectators. The Skipping Race tested stamina and coordination, as students skipped their way to the finish line, while the Cone Balance event challenged their focus and steadiness.

As we enjoy these events, let us remember that the true essence of sports lies in participation, effort, and the joy of playing. Winning is important, but the lessons learned and memories created on the field are even more valuable.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our teachers, staff, and students for their hard work and dedication in organizing this event. Sankranthi, celebrated in mid-January, marks a significant occasion in India’s cultural and agricultural calendar. Known by different names across the country—Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Lohri in Punjab, Bihu in Assam, and Uttarayan in Gujarat—this harvest festival symbolizes gratitude, new beginnings, and the joy of community.

At its core, Sankranthi celebrates the sun’s transition into the zodiac sign Capricorn (Makara) and its journey toward the northern hemisphere, known as Uttarayana. This astronomical shift is seen as a time of hope and renewal, as days become longer and winter begins to recede. It is also a thanksgiving festival where farmers express gratitude to nature, particularly the Sun God, for a bountiful harvest.

Cultural Activities and Symbolism

Sankranthi is deeply rooted in India’s agrarian traditions. Across the country, the festival begins with cleaning and decorating homes, often with colorful rangolis drawn at entrances. These intricate patterns not only add beauty but also symbolize prosperity and positivity. Flying kites is another iconic tradition, particularly in Gujarat and Rajasthan, where the skies come alive with vibrant colors. On 20th December 2024, ABHYAAS THE GLOBAL SCHOOL hosted its Annual Sports Carnival, which was a resounding success. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and parents, all coming together to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition.

Event Overview

The carnival featured a range of exciting activities, including track and field events, team sports, and novelty games. Students demonstrated their skills, speed, and agility, while the crowd cheered with great enthusiasm.

The Day’s Highlights

A Frosty Morning: The carnival began on a cool, frosty morning with the opening ceremony. The day’s announcements began with the statement:
“Sports Day teaches discipline. Good morning, ABHYAAS!”
Welcoming Dignitaries: The honourable Principal, Vice Principal, Administrative Officer, and Coordinators were warmly welcomed onto the dais.
Flag Hoisting: The Principal hoisted the ABHYAAS Sports Flag, followed by the National Song, School Song, and a well-synchronized march past. The march past salutation was respectfully received by the Principal.
Oath-Taking Ceremony: The Games SPL led the oath, which was echoed by the entire school, promising to obey the rules of the games.
Torch Run Ceremony: A mesmerizing torch run began with the Principal lighting the torch. It was passed to the Games SPL, then to the School SPL, and finally to the four House Captains. During the run, the announcement rang out:
“Keep striving, keep winning.”
“We wish everyone an enjoyable time!”
Declaration Speech: The Principal declared the Sports Meet open, accompanied by a resounding applause and the release of colorful balloons into the sky.

The four houses competed in various events:

Ruby House: “Flame of Victory”
Sapphire House: “Fire of Victory”
Emerald House: “Eagles of Victory”
Diamond House: “Spirit of Victory”

House Captains inspired their teams with messages to remain honest and follow the rules. The carnival grounds, adorned with students dressed in vibrant colors from nursery to Class X, resembled a rainbow scattering its hues on the field.

Highlights included:

Team Competitions:
- A nail-biting Kho-Kho match between Sapphire and Emerald Houses, with scores reviewed through recorded clips.
- A fierce throwball match between Emerald and Diamond House girls.
Novelty Events:
- Lemon-and-spoon races and musical chairs captivated pre-primary and primary students.
- A neck-and-neck shot put competition among high school students.

The ABHYAAS playground was filled with fun and laughter. Music added to the celebratory atmosphere, and online commentary heightened the suspense as winners were announced.

Safety and Fun

Every safety measure was taken to ensure the children’s well-being. First-aid stations were equipped with ORS packets, lemon juice, and drinking water.

Closing Ceremony

Vote of Thanks: The Principal expressed gratitude to the participants, teachers, non-teaching staff, organizers, and spectators.
National Anthem: The school choir concluded the event with the National Anthem.

A special Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held, accompanied by choral singing that added to the festive spirit.

The school’s art department created a stunning Christmas display, featuring handmade decorations and festive artwork symbolizing the birth of Christ.

SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS:
Santa Claus made a delightful appearance at our Christmas celebrations, spreading joy throughout the event and bringing smiles to children of all ages.

Nursery students gave a charming performance, dancing to “Jingle Bells” with Santa Claus hats as costumes. Their delightful act received thunderous applause from the audience.

CAKE CUTTING:
The celebrations concluded with a joyful cake-cutting ceremony. Students relished the delicious cake, leaving with happy hearts and licking their fingers in delight.

This Christmas was a wonderful reminder of kindness, generosity, and communion.

Dr. Girrem Bharadwaja Naidu, and the Co-Director’s wife, Mrs. Challa Jyothi, accompanied by their daughter. Joining them were Dr. Ch. Ravinder, Dean of Academics; Mr. Prabhu Kumar, General Manager; Mrs. Manjula Devi, Principal; Mr. Srikanth, Vice-Principal; and ACOs Mr. K. Harshavardhan and Mrs. Shilaja.

With the cool winter breeze setting the perfect tone, the ceremony marked the beginning of an exhilarating season of sports, competition, and unity. The campus buzzed with enthusiasm, as the spirit of sportsmanship filled the air, promising a memorable celebration of athleticism and teamwork.

The event, skillfully hosted by Class 10 students Ch. Nithreya, M. Rithika, E. Jahnavi, and V. Yashwitha, under the guidance of Mr. T. Vijaykanth, Head of the English Department, brought together the entire school for a spectacular opening ceremony that laid the foundation for a fun-filled and competitive Carnival.

Pledge by Students – The Director administered the Greenwood Winter Sports Carnival Pledge, where students promised to uphold the values of integrity, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the Carnival and beyond.

Director’s Speech – Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu Garu gave an inspiring speech, recounting the story of Jesse Owens and Luz Long from the 1936 Olympics. His words emphasized the values of resilience, fair play, and friendship, encouraging students to embrace these principles in every aspect of their lives.

On 6th December 2024, Greenwood High School, Mancherial branch, hosted a vibrant Spelling Bee Competition under the guidance of Principal Mr.R. Chandramohan and Vice Principal Mr. G. Thirupathi. The event, initiated by Mr. Srinivas and Mrs. Sailaja Narahari, teachers of English, showcased the linguistic prowess and enthusiasm of students. The competition was further supported through the coordination of **AO Mr. Qhuuddus, *Mr. Suresh (Art), Mr. Arif (Hindi), and P.E.T Mr.Sagar Mrs. Tejaswi (Social Studies).

4 Teams— Sapphire, Diamond, Ruby, and Emerald :

The students participated with great zeal, displaying their spelling skills, vocabulary knowledge, and quick thinking. After intense competition, Team Ruby emerged victorious with *150 points, followed by *Team Sapphire and *Team Diamond, both scoring **125 points, and *Team Emerald with 105 points.

For senior group from classes 6th to 9th students.
For junior group from classes 3th to 5th students.

Quiz was conducted house wise :

Four houses are RUBY, EMERALD, DIAMOND and SAPPHIRE
each house had 8 students and multiple of rounds were conducted, most interesting round was Wheel round.

Principal Sir, Vice prinicipal and Co-ordinator madam appreciated all the team and the Quiz was hosted by Grade 9 -students : Quiz host team . They were badged as Quiz Master, Mr. Points , Mr. Time and Mr. Camera.
Auditorium resound with the applause.

*Most interesting round was audience round, On answering correct answer they were given instant chocolate.

Winning team- The RUBY house, team was appreciated with the rolling trophy and chocolates.

Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy, Hanumakonda, celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with great exuberance on October 30, 2024. This event spot lighted the school’s focus on Indian traditions and values, underlining the cultural heritage of Diwali with joy and exclusivity.

Significance of Diwali

Diwali is celebrated not only by Hindus but also by Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists. It signifies the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. It unites families and communities in joy and harmony, signified by lighting oil lamps, creating rangolis, sharing sweets, and lighting fireworks.

Historical Background of Diwali

Diwali’s origins are rich with ancient legends:

Return of Lord Rama: Diwali commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and his victory over Ravana. The people of Ayodhya welcomed him with lights and celebrations, a tradition that continues today.

Goddess Lakshmi’s Blessings: Diwali is also dedicated to worshiping Goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. Homes are decorated and lit up to welcome her blessings.

Celebration by Jains and Sikhs: For Jains, Diwali marks the enlightenment of Lord Mahavira. Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas, commemorating Guru Hargobind Ji’s release from imprisonment, symbolizing freedom and hope.

Narakasura’s Defeat: Diwali also includes the story of Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Celebrations at Greenwood School

The celebrations at Greenwood School began with a beautiful transformation of the campus. The school premises were decorated with colorful rangolis, strings of lights, and traditional decorations, filling the atmosphere with festive joy.

Lakshmi Puja and Saraswati Devi Puja

A sacred Lakshmi and Saraswati puja was conducted to seek blessings for prosperity and wisdom. Students and staff participated in this spiritual ritual with devotion, singing hymns and offering prayers, which added a sacred dimension to the festivities.

Engaging Activities and Workshops

The school organized several activities to involve students creatively in the celebrations. Workshops on making Diwali cards, decorating diyas, and creating Diwali-themed artwork allowed students to express themselves artistically and deepen their connection with the festival. Traditional sweets were shared, spreading warmth and unity among all.

Fireworks Display

In the evening, a captivating fireworks display brought an extra sparkle to the celebration. Students and teachers gathered to enjoy the vibrant colors and excitement, celebrating the victory of light over darkness. The fireworks display was organized with utmost care, ensuring everyone’s safety.
