Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks to it.
What is a better way to encourage a child to think with scientific curiosity than to organize a science fair?!
Keeping these thoughts in mind, Abhyaas The Global School organized a science fair, aptly called BRAIN RAIN. Sri. R. Venkata Ramana, the DEO(District Education Office), West Godavari, graciously agreed to be the chief guest on the occasion.
Excitement spilled all over the third week of March as the school campus witnessed a lot of hustle and bustle in preparation for the Science Fair.
Enthusiastic kids right from Class 1 to Class Jr 10 began earnestly by gathering their favorite topics, working on their project models and finally, polishing their verbal presentation items and their body language.
Highlights of the “BRAIN RAIN”
‘Bites and Bikies’ – a Snake and ladder game with a difference. The huge grids of the game were marked on the assembly ground. The game can be played by a multiple players. Each player will move forward depending on the number shown on the oversized dice. They move upwards or downwards depending on whether they climb up ladders or are bitten by snakes. Every square has pictures of either healthy or junk food items. Very interestingly, the base and tip of ladders have pictures of healthy foods whereas the heads and tails have pictures of junk foods. The players are presented with happy smiles of SAD and Happy expressions, depending on the squares they are standing on. The player with the maximum number of happy smiles is the lucky winner. The intention of his game is to integrate healthy foods habits into a fun filled game.

As the scorching summer days are approaching fast, I take this responsibility of educating my students and dear parents on the need of proper water intake and create awareness on the consequences of un-necessary consumption of WATER RESOURCES.
Water is the foundation of our existence. The human body needs water for the day to day survival. Moreover, our body itself comprises of 70% water. This, in turn, helps our body to function normally.
Thus, the lack of sufficient water or consumption of contaminated water can cause serious health problems for humans. Therefore, the amount and quality of water which we consume is essential for our physical health plus fitness. It is said that every human being should consume at least 8 liters of water to keep hydrated.
Further, our daily activities are incomplete without water. Whether we talk about getting up in the morning to brush or cooking our food, it is equally important. If we look beyond human uses, we will realize how water plays a major role in every living beings life. It is the home of aquatic animals..
Therefore, we see how not only human beings but plants and animals too require water. The earth depends on water to function. We cannot be selfish and use it up for our uses without caring about the environment.

A world without water
Water is not only required for our survival but for a healthy and happy life as well. Everyone has seen the scenario of water-deprived countries like Africa, where citizens are leading a miserable life. It is time for everyone to wake up and realize the urgency of conserving water. Water is the basic necessity for the functioning of all life forms that exist on earth. It is safe to say that water is the reason behind earth being the only planet to support life. This universal solvent is one of the major resources we have on this planet. It is impossible for life to function without water.
In other words, a world without water would make the human race impossible to last. The same can be said for all the animals and plants. In fact, the whole earth will suffer without water.
Firstly, the greenery will soon diminish. When earth won’t get water, all the vegetation will die and turn into barren land. The occurrence of different seasons will soon cease. The earth will be caught in one big endless summer. All forms of living organisms will go extinct if we do not conserve water right away.
In conclusion, unnecessary usage of water must be stopped at once. Every single person must work to conserve water and restore the balance. If not, we all know what the consequences are going to be.

Holi is a festival of colours. Even the elderly turn into youngsters on this day as they forget their age and ailments while naughtily pursuing their targets to cover them up with as many colours as possible.
The gulaal used in earlier days was made from natural colours extracted from flowers, spices and trees etc and had medicinal properties beneficial to the skin.
Unfortunately, in modern days, the hazardous chemicals and substances used in Holi colours play havoc with our skin, eyes and respiratory system.
In the name of celebrating Holi, a huge amount of water is spent and even wasted. Playing wet Holi with water-guns or water-balloons can harm the ear. Water may enter the ear and cause itching, earache or blockage.
The next few days after Holi are spent trying to get rid of the unforgiving colours stuck mercilessly to the skin and clothes.
Inorder to avoid such problems, we at Abhyaas the global school celebrated Holi with a difference. Colours were used creatively. The tiny tots dipped their palms into vibrant colours of their choice and admired the way their own palms and those of their peers looked. Next, they pressed their palms and thumbs on a chart leaving imprints to create a beautiful and creative picture.
The kids played with colours but didn’t smear them on each other instead they used them creatively to create memories of a different kind.
In order to reduce pressure on children and make it more interesting Greenwood High School has organized fun day on every Saturday.
It was a day full of fun activities and games. Witnessing an enthusiastic response and participation, the excitement started with stories and jokes presentation by the students which was a great way to showcase their talent. The students were engaged in an artistic endeavor that fostered their creative spirit by doodling their favorite cool and tasty delicacy.

One may wonder if his or her parenting style has effectively influenced his or her child’s complete development.
A child’s holistic development, specifically psychological (emotional and social) and cognitive (intellect) developments, may be affected by numerous factors. These factors may be biological and environmental, which includes culture, family and more significantly parenting styles.
There are FOUR parenting styles namely “authoritative (demanding and responsive)”, “authoritarian (demanding and unresponsive)” and “permissive (responsive but undemanding)”. More recently, uninvolved parenting (unresponsive and undemanding) has been recognized as a fourth style.
Though each parenting style has varying characteristics, it is crucial for the child to receive both nurture and autonomy in order to obtain adequate development. Parenting styles such as authoritative and uninvolved influence a child’s cognitive and psychological development but authoritative parenting is preferred.
A child’s cognitive development is optimum for independence and decision making skills when experiencing positive and maximum parental support. Hence, an authoritative parent is said to be highly involved in a child’s development, offering positive and maximum parental support which encourages the development of a personality. A child reared by the authoritative parenting style exhibits high self-esteem, self control and task persistence.
In regards to a child who has high self-esteem, positive values and beliefs are passed on from the parents because of their high participation in the offspring’s life. For example, the importance of these parental beliefs and positive values are adopted from family discussions and family rules and practices.
Research has shown that children reared by authoritative parents have great academic success because the parents are extremely involved in all aspects of their lives and particularly, their academic achievements. Authoritative parents will praise their children for striving; help them with the difficulties they face in their school work and encourage them to do their best. Children given this positive and maximum parental support believe they have the competence to succeed in life.
The different areas of a child’s development are interconnected thus influencing one another.
Authoritative parents are demanding-have high hopes and expectations for their children.
Children of authoritative parents exhibit low amount of internalizing behavior such as depression and anxiety and externalizing behavior such as antisocial behavior and substance use.
Offspring of these parents are more socially and instrumentally competent than children reared by other parenting styles. Authoritative parents also show interest in their child’s social life. It is important that they know about their child’s whereabouts and the friends he or she keeps. Therefore, the child will be less likely to be antisocial in behavior because of their high autonomy granting. Similarly, it is important to note that though these parents are involved in the child’s social life, they do not dictate the type of friends the child should keep. Instead, they provide good advice and allow the child to make his or her own decision.
