Physical activity is not only essential for healthy growth and development, it’s also important to learning. Increasing physical activity and physical fitness may improve academic performance and that time in the school day dedicated to recess, physical education class, and physical activity in the classroom may also facilitate academic performance.
Although academic performance stems from a complex interaction between intellect and contextual variables, health is a vital moderating factor in a child’s ability to learn. The idea that healthy children learn better is empirically supported and well accepted, and multiple studies have confirmed that health benefits are associated with physical activity, including cardiovascular and muscular fitness, bone health, psychosocial outcomes, and cognitive and brain health. The relationship of physical activity and physical fitness to cognitive and brain health and to academic performance is a proven fact.
Research shows that physical activity – whether it’s team sports, bike riding, swimming at the beach or playground games – has positive effects on the brain and on school performance.
The positive effects of Games or physical activity on the brain:
Physical activity has a direct impact on the behavior and development of the brain.
The flow of oxygen to the brain is increased
The number of brain neurotransmitters is increased, which assists your ability to focus, concentrate, learn, remember and handle stress
The number of brain-derived neurotrophies is increased, which assures the survival of neurons in areas of the brain that are responsible for learning, memory and higher thinking
Physical activity linked to higher learning grades:
Physical activity has an impact on cognitive skills such as concentration and attention, and it also enhances classroom attitudes and behaviors, all of which are important components of improved academic performance and better language skills. The more physically fit children were not only better at reading, but they were also better at reading passages.
Physical activity has a relationship to parts of the brain that support complex cognitive processes during laboratory tasks. It also showed that physical activity is important for growth, development and general health. Physical activity was also found to boost brain power and academic performance, among other benefits.
Building their cognitive functioning:
Executive function and brain health underlie academic performance. Basic cognitive functions related to attention and memory facilitates learning, and these functions are enhanced by physical activity and higher aerobic fitness.
Just one session of moderate physical activity instantly boosts kids’ brain function, cognition and academic performance.
Mastering fundamental movement skills boosts brain power and academic performance.
Time away from lessons in favour of physical activity doesn’t come at the cost of good grades.
Nurturing their engagement, motivation and psychological well-being:
Physical activity boosts children’s self-esteem.
It nurtures relationships with peers, parents and teachers.
A caring environment that supports autonomy enhances kids’ motivation, their behaviour relating to physical activity and their general well-being.
Regular and organized physical activity training promotes life skills (interpersonal, self-regulation) and core values like respect and social responsibility.
Supporting a culture of inclusiveness:
Culture- and context-sensitive activities promote social inclusion.

Sankranti signifies the light; it gives the message of intellectual illumination and symbolizes the end of winter where days grow longer and the night shorter. The festival is celebrated across the country with different names and customs.

Makara Sankranti is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus. Usually, this festival falls on January 15. This occasion marks the transition of the Sun from the zodiac of Sagittarius (Dhanssu) to Capricorn (Makara).
Since the Sun is regarded to have moved from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere on this day in the Hindu calendar, the festival is dedicated to the solar deity, Surya. It is observed to mark a new beginning. Many native multi-day festivals are organized on this occasion all over India.
Makar Sankranti is observed with social festivities such as colourful decorations, rural children going house to house wearing colourful dresses, very very special festive feasts, Bhogi Mantalu (bonfires), kite flying, Cock Fights, Edla Pandalu (Bull Races) etc. Another speciality of this festival are many homemade special traditional sweets. This festival really gives a bonanza to all the Gourmets.
The girls and the women folk do have a wonderful time during this festival designing Rangavallulu, singing songs around Gobbellu; Cow dung balls decorated with flowers.

It has been a tradition and custom at Greenwood to celebrate all the festivals so as to see that the children staying away from their homes do not miss even the slightest part of their culture, tradition and heritage.
This year the children with the assistance of the Greenwood Art Department recreated this festival in a miniature way. They brought in a true festival look to our school, creating a small village scene. Many parents who have come to school to pick up their children for a week-long holiday had a wonderful time enjoying all this. The number of Selfies they have clicked in indeed countless.
Greenwood Wishes one and all A Happy Makara Sankranthi.
It is a celebration to thank the Sun, Mother Nature and the various farm animals that help to contribute to a bountiful harvest. We at Greenwood, celebrated all the three days(Bhogi, sankranthi and Kanuma) of the festival.
All our children have come in traditional outfit and also dressed themselves as Godha devu,Sakunthala,Sun,Haridasu,Pittala Dora,Sodemma etc. and delivered the charcters.

As Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India is observing the Road Safety Week from 11th to 17th January 2023, under “Swachhata Pakhawada”, to propagate the cause of safer roads for all. We at Greenwood High School, Manchirial branch did our part to educate laymen on ROAD SAFETY.
Our students excuted a a rally with slogans on road safety.
As it is quite common that people never pay attention for regular things, our students performed a MIME to illustrate how carelessness causes lives. And also a Flash mob to emphasize various measures that people should take to comply with the government’s safety regulations and keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
On 17th Morning around 10 A.M. after reaching New Delhi, we moved to Red Fort. It was a cool morning and viewing Red Fort from Chandini Chowk main road was a first time experience for many of us. This is the place from which our beloved Prime Minister hoist National Flag on every August 15th. With the help of a local guide, we entered into the fort complex. Though some of the parts in the fort was demolished, yet it has some Mughal Architects remaining intact to tell its past glory to the visitors, specially Rang Mahal, Diwan-E-Aam and Diwan-E-Khas. Nadir Shah had looted Red Fort in 1747 and sold most of the artifacts to Europeans. Red Fort Archeological Museum is now located inside Mumtaz Mahal.
Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra & Raj Ghat
Out little stop over at Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra which was very recently inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi’s effort to cleanliness. It is in close vicinity to Raj Ghat, the resting place of the Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Every year millions of people from across India pay visit to the Raj Ghat to pay their homage to Mahatma Gandhi-the epitome of Ahimsa. We along with our teachers moved to Raj Ghat. The adagio of Gandhiji’s favourite Bhajan, Vaishnava Jan to Tene Kahiye re…made the campus more lively. His contribution to the freedom struggle and his universal teachings of Non-Violence is still inspires us.
Displaying a plethora of traditional and modern Hindu Culture, Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple was our destination on 17th November evening. An ocean of crowds throng to this beautiful temple everyday to learn about the rich cultural heritage of India and to witness a beautiful water show which displays anecdotes from Upanishads glorifying the greatness of the almighty. The circumbulation path around the temple display the messages of Sahajanand Swamiji popularly known as Swaminarayan Maharaj. The idea of establishing such grand temple in Delhi was the brainchild of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual successor of Sahajanand Swamiji.
Once entered into the temple premises, devotees are guided to thematic gardens, galleries, Sahajanand Darshan, Neelkanth Darshan and Sanskruti Darshan that represents various themes based on the life of Swaminarayan ji, his childhood, his contribution to the world and his legacy.
Worth mentioning here is Sanskruti Darshan, which take visitors through a boat and sails through 1000 years of ancient history. This 12 minute boat ride represents India’s important contribution to the world.
There breathtaking view of beautiful gold plated idol of Swaminarayan Maharaj in the sanctum sanctorum surrounded by beautifully carved pillars with intricate designs mesmerizes the beholders. Also it encompasses deities of prominent Avatars of Hinduism such as Lord Rama, Lord Krishna with beautiful decorations.
Truly speaking, visiting Delhi is incomplete without paying a visit to Swami Narayan Akshardham Temple as it supplements and enhances a visitors notion of India.
Qutub Minar
On 18th December morning, we visited Qutub Minar Complex. Built around 12th century, Qutub Minar is a synthesis of Indo-Islamic architecture. It stand as a reminder of the arrival of Islam to India. It is commonly said that Qutub Minar is named after Qutbuddin Aibak. But historical accounts say that it is named after Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki, a sufi saint of that time. It is the tallest minarate built entirely with bricks.
LOTUS TEMPLE
The Bahai Temple of Prayer, known as LOTUS TEMPLE was our next destination. We reached Temple around 4:00 P.M. Due to the huge rush in the compound, no one was allowed into the main prayer hall, but we were allowed to have a closer view of the temple. India has been the land of universal tolerance which has accepted every path to divinity as valid. Hence people of all faiths feel India as their own home.
INDIA GATE
On 19th December early morning we set our journey to most iconic place of New Delhi, that is INDIA GATE. Built by British after the First World War to honour the sacrifice of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives for the service, it encompasses the names of those brave soldiers on its wall.
Very recently the statue of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose was installed in the Canopy that lies just in front of the India Gate.
Visiting NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL was a long cherished dream of many of us as it is built to honour our brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect their motherland. The kiths and kins of those soldiers visit this memorial to pay a floral tributes.
On the last day of our visit, we had a very good shopping experience in Karol Bagh, New Delhi. Dotted with all kinds of shops, selling all varieties of goods we could not but gathered as much as we can. After all this is a life time experience as school days would never come back and school days memories never die down.
After shopping, we reached Delhi Railway Station and our return journey to Warangal started in Grand Trunk express at 4:10 p.m. and reached safely to Warangal at 7:00 p.m. on 20th December.
We all are sincerely thankful to our Greenwood Management, our beloved Director Sri Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu Garu for having given us the consent to organize this educational tour. Ramakrishna, Mr. Pradeep Reddy, Non teaching staff Mrs. Swarnalatha, Ms. Ramadevi(ANM) and Mr. Mahesh, who accompanied the Educational tour and took good care of all the students.
Lastly we would like to say…. We travel because we become uncomfortable being too comfortable within the boundaries of limited learning.
We travelled to the state of Punjab from Mathura on 14th December night. It was a night long journey. The children relished this long journey mixed with nice sleep in the cosy comfort of the luxury bus and were not tired at all. We all reached Amritsar on 15th by 01.00 p.m. From there we travelled to one of the key landmarks of the Indian Freedom Struggle; Jallianwala Bagh. We visited the Museum, watched the Laser show at Jallianwala Bagh. The Laser show depicted in detail the events of Massacre. By this we understood the historical importance of Jallianwala Bagh incident that intensified our Freedom Struggle.
The Historical Importance of Jallianwala Bagh
Presently this is a Historical Garden and a ‘Memorial of National Importance’. It is very close to the sacred ‘Golden Temple Complex’ in Amritsar, Punjab. It is preserved as a memorial for those brutally killed; the men, women and even the innocent children; and wounded in what is known as Jallianwala Bagh Massacre at this site on the festive day of Baisakhi on 13 April 1919.
Also known as the ‘Amritsar Massacre’, this marks the brutality and cruelty and inhumane nature of the British Rulers. On that fateful day General Dyer, attacked and ordered firing at a crowd of people, protesting peacefully against the Rowlatt Act and arrest of pro-independence activists Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal. Unfortunately, this place was densely surrounded by buildings and had only one exit which was blocked by the forces of General Dyer. Thus, when the firing was started people had no way to escape. Many succumbed to death and several injured fatally. It was so disheartening to recall that the firing continued without any break till the ammunition was totally exhausted. This incident shocked each and everyone. Rabindranath Tagore was so moved that he renounced his Knighthood in protest of this British brutality.
GOLDEN TEMPLE
The Golden temple is famous for its full golden dome, it is one of the most sacred pilgrim spots for Sikhs. The Mandir is built on a 67-ft square of marble and is a two storied structure. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had the upper half of the building built with approximately 400 kg of gold leaf.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh, after founding the Sikh Empire, rebuilt it in marble and copper in 1809, and overlaid the sanctum with gold leaf in 1830. This has led to the name the Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is spiritually the most significant shrine in Sikhism.
At 06.45 in the evening, we started walking towards the holy “Golden Temple” from the Jallianwala Bagh with heavy hearts to get the solace in the blessing of the Holy Sikh Guru. We all entered the temple strictly following the religious dictums of Sikhism; tying a holy cloth; turban around our heads and dipping our feet in the holy water in the temple complex.
The Golden temple is a Gurudwara, an eminent spiritual and holy place of Sikhism. We also visited Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, in Kartarpur and Gurudwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib.
By 09.00 p.m. that day, we moved to a comfortable hotel for a sumptuous dinner and a goodnight’s sleep in comfort.
Bhagwan Valmiki Tirth Asthan
On 16/12/2022, at 08.00am in the morning we all started towards the famous Bhagwan Valmiki Tirth Asthan at Amritsar.
Bhagwan Valmiki Tirth Asthan is a Temple Complex; an important historical monument dedicated to Maharshi Valmiki’s located on Bhagwan Valmiki Tirth Road, about 11 km west of Amritsar city. There is an 8-foot-tall, 800-kg gold-plated idol of Sage Valmiki in this complex.
According to the Hindu Mythology, this temple dates back to the period of Ramayana. This placed is believed to be the erstwhile Ashram of Sage Valmiki. It is the very place where Sadhvi Sita was given shelter and the children of Lord Rama were born. It is the place where the epic Ramayana was written by Rishi Valmiki. Close to this place is Ram Tirth, where Lord Rama’s forces were defeated by his own sons; Lava and Kusha.
Wagah Border
We started moving towards the Wagah Border(Attari Border) at about 1.30 p.m. and reached there by 03.00 p.m. which is almost 32 Kms away from Amritsar.
Wagah is the international border between India and Pakistan; an army outpost on Indo-Pak border – between Amritsar and Lahore. It is an elaborate complex of buildings, roads and barriers on both sides of India and Pakistan.
We are fortunate to witness the pomp and pageantry of the ‘Beating Retreat’ a remarkable ritual followed here on each and every day. This marks the change of guard at both sides within the handshaking distance of the Indian and Pakistani forces. Soldiers from both the countries perform a perfect drill and march, thus going through an exciting and hair rising procedure followed by the bringing down of their respective national flags. As the sun goes down, nationalistic fervour rises and lights are switched on marking the end of the day amidst thunderous applause patriotism. This spectacular array would certainly last in our hearts for a life time.
Makar refers to the Zodiac sign of Capricorn, while Sankranti means transition. The festival ‘Makar Sankranti’ celebrates the Sun’s shift into the zodiac sign of Capricorn. It is celebrated in reverence to the deity Surya (sun). It is observed each year in January. It marks the first day of sun’s transit into the Makara (Capricorn) and marks the end of the winter solstice. Being a festival that celebrates the solar cycle, it usually falls on the same Gregorian date every year. This festival officially announces the beginning of spring. The festival highlights the importance of pulling back unethical and unhealthy behaviors while practicing peaceful and positive ones instead.
The three days festivities are known by various names such as “BHOGI”,SANKRANTHI and KANUMA.
Abhyaas the global school celebrated pre- ‘Sankranti’ with great pomp and splendour where students came in colourful traditional Indian dresses. All the students and teachers decorated a village hut with motifs related to Sankranti, colourful rangolies and flowers.
Bommala Koluvu was arranged with images of Gods, toys, and dolls that were brought by the students.
The celebrations were started by the Principal and parents by lightening the bonfire as a symbol of discarding outdated things and ideas welcoming new things and new ideas to prosper.
Next, kids of Nursery, LKG, UKG, Classes 1 and 2 were blessed by their Principal, teachers and parents with auspicious akshantalu, coins, berry fruits and flowers as a tradition of BHOGIAPPLLU POYADAM.advertisement

A solid understanding of milestones and developmental pathways across each domain of children’s development can benefit teachers as well as parents in several ways.
Knowledge of how children within a given age span typically develop and learn provides a general framework to guide teachers in preparing the learning environment, considering curriculum, designing learning experiences, teaching and interacting with children.
Also important for parents to know the sequences in which children gain specific concepts, skills, and abilities, building on prior development and learning familiarity, for the better understanding of their wards learning abilities.
Knowledge of child development and learning provides the best foundation for planning for children.
Knowledge of individual child, and knowledge of family, community, and culture from which the child comes helps to understand the individual needs.
Knowing what is typical at a certain age is the best place to start when experiences and environments are planned for children. Plans based on typical child development and learning meet the needs of the majority of children, then make changes to accommodate individual children who may be ahead or behind.
Knowledge of child development and learning helps to plan next steps for supporting children’s progress.
Knowledge of the sequence of knowledge or skill development in any given area helps schools to set achievable, appropriate learning goals for children. It also helps to plan activities and experiences that challenge children just enough to progress without frustrating them with a challenge that is too far beyond their abilities.
We continually expand our own knowledge of child development and learning, and apply that knowledge when we plan and make decisions in their program, can feel confident about their practice. We also have a solid foundation when we explain our decisions and practices to parents and colleagues; a foundation that goes beyond personal opinion or feelings.
How do Social and Emotional Development Affect Learning?!
There is no doubt that social emotional learning teaches character. Social-emotional competencies empower kids to grow self-aware and confident, to manage difficult emotions and impulses, and to embody empathy, which translates to not only improved behavior but also test scores.
Character matters
Character can be taught
Character improves academic, social, and professional achievement
By providing a kind environment, it helps to encourage optimal brain development as well as social connection and collaboration. In other words, it affects learning by shaping children’s developing neural circuitry, particularly the executive functions.
As children feel safe and learn how to inhibit disruptive emotional impulses, they exhibit greater self-confidence, better behavior and enhanced memory. They enjoy the learning process and thus, readily engage and fully immerse themselves in gaining new information and skills.

Our journey started with the boarding of Andhra Pradesh Super fast Express from Warangal Station at 7.30 A.M. and reached Agra on early morning of 13th December. As a popular proverb says, happiness lies in the journey not in the destination; we were amazed with the glimpse of cultural, linguistic and geographical diversity of our nation right from the beginning. Inside the train, meeting new people, exchanging thoughts and sharing pleasantries, lots of fun filled moments are worth mentioning here. While were crossing Chambal River, we witnessed ravines of Chambal that has been shaped by the river over a millennia.
On 13th morning accompanied by tour guides we visited Agra Fort. The grandeur and magnificent view of the fort was astonishing. Encompassing more than 94 Acres, it share its own tell of history. Different structures within Agra fort which attracts the attention of visitors are Diwan-I-Aam, Diwan-I-Khas, Jahangir’s Hauz and Shish Mahal. The breathtaking view of Taj Mahal from Agra Fort shrouded with morning fog certainly makes someone lost in wonder. From entrance to exit, Agra Fort revealed its glorious past mixed with bravery and glory.

Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan (reigned from 1628 to 1658), to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
By afternoon we visited Taj Mahal (Built by Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal) one of the modern seven wonders of the world. The majestic view of Taj Mahal along with its chahar bagh, Yamuna river view from its plinth and central dome that reaches upto 73 meters was a feast for eyes.

Inside the Fatehpur Sikri there are different monuments such as Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panchmahal, Jodha Bai Mahal, Anup talab, Naubat Khana and Ibadat Khana. The biggest attraction of Fatehpur Sikri was Buland Darwaja.
MATHURA AND VRINDAVAN
On the way to Amritsar, the city of Golden Temple, we had a brief visit to Mathura and Vrindavan, the places associated with the glory of Lord Sri Krishna. The tumultuous past of Mathura with its chunk of history, linked with the heart of millions of devotees across the globe, the mere presence inside Krishna Janmabhoomi temple makes someone calm, composure and devotional.
Vrindavan, little far from Mathura is a place associated with the childhood days of Lord Sri Krishna. Though there are hundreds of Temples dedicated to the supreme Deity of Hinduism, Prem Mandir stands apart.
Made from Italian Marble, it transport its beholders to another level of experience. The play of modern lights on the shining marbles of the temple worth mentioning here. The Temple Campus of Prem Mandir has all the elements that glorifies the earthly as well as divine deeds of Lord Krishna, be it stealing butter, killing of demons, playing with Sudama, Kaliya Dalan and many more.
The experiences that we had after visiting to these places undoubtedly transformed us from merely a bookish learner to a learner with a new vision and new experience.
