Parents Role

Parents play a pivotal role in shaping the character and moral compass of their children. From the earliest stages of development, parents serve as role models and guides, instilling values, beliefs, and behaviors that lay the foundation for a child’s character.

First and foremost, parents model behaviors and attitudes that children observe and emulate. Children learn empathy, kindness, honesty, and resilience by observing how their parents interact with others and handle challenges. Parents who demonstrate respect for others and show compassion create an environment conducive to character development.

Furthermore, communication is vital in character building. Open and meaningful conversations between parents and children allow for discussions on ethical dilemmas, decision-making, and personal values. Parents can encourage critical thinking and empathy by engaging in these discussions and fostering a safe space for their children to express their thoughts.

Discipline and boundaries also contribute to character formation. Consistent and fair discipline teaches children about responsibility, accountability, and the consequences of their actions. Setting boundaries helps children understand the importance of respecting rules and the rights of others.

Additionally, parents can expose their children to diverse experiences and perspectives, broadening their horizons and promoting tolerance and understanding. Encouraging involvement in community service or volunteering cultivates a sense of social responsibility and compassion for others.

Thus, parents are the primary architects of their children’s character. Through their words, actions, guidance, and support, parents mold the moral and ethical framework that shapes the individuals their children become. It is a profound responsibility that, when undertaken thoughtfully and consistently, contributes to the betterment of both the child and society at large.

##Abhyaas The Global School,Bhimavaram, AP

After enduring the the long scorching summer, the earth eagerly waits for the rain to fall and cool her parched crust. In the same way little children wait for the rain with eager hearts to get drenched naughtily in the rain chance to play with their paper boats in little puddles.

We at Abhyaas the global school have given our tiny tots a much awaited chance to dance and sing in the rain by celebrating ‘Rain Day’.

The teachers took this occasion as a chance to give their tiny pupils hands on experience of what is rain and monsoon season.

It was a heartwarming sight to see them all lined up in their colourful umbrellas and raincoats singing ‘Pitter Patter Raindrops’

The tiny tots shook their best legs to an accompanying lively song.

Joyful Jensica from UKG sang ‘I Har Thunder’ so realistically that it seamed as if it was really thundering at the moment.

Keep the infections away this rainy season

Extreme climatic conditions have become common these days, whether it is for the global warming or the climate change crisis. For the last few years, our state has been witnessing excessive rains during the rainy season. So much so that the preparedness of the government or individuals seem to be inadequate howsoever carefully planned.

Rainy season opens a plethora of health issues, particularly for children and elderly. The dampening weather would readily aid the bacteria and germs to thrive and cold, cough and fever are commonly noticed in children. Besides, the dangers of drains and flooding water make young children particularly vulnerable. It’s high time parents take extra precautions to ensure their children are safeguarded from the seasonal change flus and other dangers.

Best practices to ensure a child safety include: not allowing them to venture out during the rain or immediately after the rain. Familiarizing the children with the cross paths and manholes with in the vicinity of your home would be a better idea.

One major source of infections during the season is contaminated food and water. The climate is so pleasant that everyone would be tempted to eat and drink warm foods and beverages. But avoiding any sort of eating out, roadside foods particularly, is in the best interest of your child.

Also, maintaining a good hygiene at the home and washing hands frequently, one can keep the illness away. Eating wholesome, sumptuous homecooked meals and drinking plenty of water to keep oneself hydrated is important in all seasons.

India’s Freedom Struggle, a glorious chapter

We are at the fag end of July. In the month of August, we mark our Independence Day on 15th and we fondly remember our cherished goals of independence movement and the leaders who were at forefront in that glorious chapter of India’s freedom struggle.

As kids, we were looking forward to Independence Day with lots of fervour every year. Various competitions in schools and preparations for Independence Day celebrations used to fill us with patriotic spirit and our commitment to the wellbeing of our nation and society used to be renewed, right? But, have you noticed it is increasingly become another day, even more sadly, a holiday, for these generations? What do you think has changed?

Perhaps, Globalization an eraser of boundaries among the people and nations, all thanks to social media and internet, might be at work to feel less connected to one’s nation. It is important for all of us parents to instill the patriotic spirit in the children. children are blindsided to history. The full extent of history of India’s freedom struggle is known to students only after they reach higher classes. It does not mean that we cannot do anything about it.

India’s independence movement is read with great reverence all over the world for the peaceful means it adopted to free itself from the British clutches while other nations witnessed lot of bloodshed for the same. It is a glorious chapter — to fight lawfully with the oppressor — in the history of mankind; it is our rich heritage.

As a nation we are yet to achieve the goals, we set out for ourselves. The task of building a nation free of hunger, poverty, and illiteracy is still ahead of all of us. The onus of carrying forward the hard-earned freedom and building a strong India lies on the shoulders of future generations.

How can we expect this wonderful journey to continue unless we incalculate patriotism and feelings for nation in the young minds! Parents can play a major role in a child’s understanding of the surroundings.

Let us resolve to talk to our children about our country and the values that define our freedom struggle.

Teach children the importance of health and wellbeing

On the 1st of August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conferred Lokmanya Tilak National Award in Pune. The Award is named after Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the first nationalist leader who strongly advocated self-rule with the slogan “Swaraj is my birthright I shall have it.”  Unlike the most other first-generation national leaders who happened to be foreign educated, Tilak had completed his education in India. He has a distinct name in the India’s freedom struggle for his ingenuity.

Tilak, in his autobiography writes that when he was a teenager, as he had started to understand the colonial rule and India’s lack of freedom, he reflected how he can contribute to the country. To his shock, he realized that he was too weak physically to do anything for himself, forget about the nation. He immediately resolved to start doing exercises and grow in strength physically. And, the rest is history to all of us. He endured jail in India and Burma but never compromised on his goal to see India as free country, and went on to be a prominent freedom fighter.

There is a lesson for all of us: students, teachers, parents and everyone else to learn from the life of Tilak. Health and fitness are important for everyone; more so for the students who are aspiring to achieve something in life. Parents are the first role models for a child to think about health and wellbeing. If parents follow a healthy routine like taking healthy food and doing some physical activity children are likely to imbibe it, and make it part of their life. Even if the parents can’t afford to follow an active lifestyle, they can enthuse children by talking to them about the importance of health and encouraging them to include some sort of physical activity in their daily life.

For the kind of hectic academic calendar and rigorous routine students have, it’s better if they have some daily dose of stress buster. What could be better than some sort of physical activity for a stress reliever? Encourage your child to walk, jog, run or swim, or play a sport of their choice for an hour a day. If they are keen, join them in a sporting academy for their preferred sport.

Parents have a significant role to play in the healthy and active lifestyle of children, and they must do their bit for the overall wellbeing of a child.

Ensure Child’s online Safety  and Safeguard the Childhood

Do you monitor your child’s online activities?

Many of us do not, for the good reason of not encroaching into child’s space or not to meddle with their privacy. But, it might leave your child in distress for the reasons of   online harassment, abuse, and bullying. Have you ever thought about it?

Easy availability of mobile devices and increased internet connectivity has definitely democratized access to information, particularly to students, but the same also made children more vulnerable. The anonymity the internet and social media offers make everyone take anyone’s identity online and get in touch and engage in conversation with everyone.

Young children, prone to easy influence, are at the risk of getting in contact with wrong people who predate the vulnerable. Also, with easy spread of memes and caricatures online, the classroom issues are often finding a venting on social media platforms. Cyber bullying is on the rise all over the world for the same reasons.

Some students, when snubbed or rejected, are resorting to spreading false information about people in class and school online groups, which are widely in use over various social media platforms causing mental agony and trauma.

Even WhatsApp is a potential source for misguiding the children as many fake things and propaganda can be easily circulated over it. Making the child to learn to verify before believing anything circulated on WhatsApp to be true is the way to save children from undue influence.

Since various dangers are lurking over the social media, it is better to keep a tab on children’s online activities but without encroaching into their space. Also, speaking to children about the possible dangers over the social media and internet and making them aware of the need to be vigilant is advisable.

The best thing would be creating a healthy atmosphere at home where these issues are openly discussed and remedial measures proactively sought.

Green Day Celebrations @ Abhyaas The Global School

Abhyaas The Global School @ Bhimavaram, AP

The first of June 2023 seemed to be as if it was springtime. There was a burst of green colour everywhere at Abhyaas the global school as the tiny Gems and Jellies as well as the  super tiny Cherries and Berries celebrated Green Day in their own style.

The tiny nightingales wearing green clothes sang a lovely rhyme ‘Do you like the colour green?’, showing off their vocal skills to their beloved Principal Mr. Valavala Satyanarayana.

The little ones cleverly identified all the green coloured toys, vegetables and fruits that were spread out across their classroom. The teachers took this occasion as an opportunity and left no stone unturned to spread awareness amongst the little ones to protect our nature as it is the basis of our life.

Learning and mastering skills makes a child future-ready

How many of you see learning as a process of acquiring the skills required to do well in the chosen field and life in general?

At the turn of the century, the advent of new technological interventions in all aspects of life has influenced the education significantly. Comparing to the conventional degrees, skills one acquired have started playing a greater role in one’s career development. It is important for all the parents to take note of the change in the global job market and encourage students to learn as many skills as possible in the course of their studies.

The pace with which science and technology is evolving make the future even more dynamic for skilled people. Right set of skills play a significant role in one’s career progression in the near future.

Parents, instead of just worrying about marks and grades, underlining the importance of skills to be learnt and master a few go long way. Emphasizing the same to children at every opportunity would be wise thing to do. Also, providing the necessary suitable environment for students to master skills set and excel at the same proves to be a boon for the beautiful future for students.

It may sound troublesome, but parents keeping a tab on what’s going around and passing the information to students since the young age makes the children feel secure about themselves and the best would easily come out from them.

New Beginning for the New Academic Year 2023-24

Dear Students and Parents,

Finally, the much awaited Monsoon has hit our region and brought a respite from the scorching sun. Around the same time, new academic year has begun too. It’s time for parents and students to get back to that demanding routine, after a month long summer vacation.

Beginning of the academic year presents new challenges, I understand, but also new opportunities, I say.

For the students, it’s an opportunity to start a fresh, leaving behind the last year and last year experiences and set new goals, academic or personal, for the forth coming year. Of course, review, an honest and sincere one, of the last year performance and achievements to take confidence and get going on is always advisable.

When one prepare a plan for the next academic year, keeping the lessons learnt last year in mind and planning not to repeat the mistakes are better be ensured. Remember, each academic year takes you closer to realizing your career and life goals. Wise are those who would see the larger picture and build themselves for the future.

It’s easy to build a wall brick by brick over a period of time than to build it over night.  Likewise, those who build them every year, grow competent enough to deal with any situation and emerge as winners from adverse situations too. So, realize that new academic year is new opportunity to grow and build for that desired future.

For parents, this time of the year is a troublesome period as students who are used to holidays don’t readily change their routine and cooperate. Motivating them to go to school, do homework and complete their assignments on time would be challenging, I reckon. But, it is also of paramount important to follow up with students until they get used to. It’s best if parents can reach out to the school and teachers to discuss the academic plans of the year and encourage the child follow accordingly.

For higher classes, particularly for Class X students, guiding the students to prepare a plan of approach and daily schedule and keeping them motivated to follow the same diligently works wonderful.

I extend my warmest best wishes to everyone for the upcoming academic year.

International Yoga Day Celebrated in Greenwood @ Erragattugutta

@ Erragattugutta @ Greenwood High School

Yoga is a posture-based physical fitness, stress relief and relaxation technique consisting mainly of asanas. The mention of ‘yoga’ is largely found in Vedas; particularly in Rigveda. We can find many things about yoga in the Hatha Yoga texts.

Now people across the world began to think about yoga as a practice that synchronises body, mind and the Spirit. The traditional yoga focuses on meditation that releases one from worldly attachments. However, the modern forms of yoga are fitness based.

It was introduced to the world by gurus from India after the success of Swami Vivekananda’s adaptation of yoga without asanas. Vivekananda introduced the Yoga Sutras to the West saying that one needs nerves of steel and muscles of iron.

Today, the 21 June 2023, Wednesday, Greenwood High School, Hasanparthy has celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day in the School’s Amphitheatre (Open Auditorium) at 6:30 a.m. Students took part in these celebrations and demonstrated various asanas and breathing exercises. Sri Bhoga Raghupathi a well-known Yoga Guru from Parkal has guided the students through Asanas and breathing exercises. Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu, the Director of Greenwood Group of Schools has presided over these celebrations.

Sri VVV Naveen Kumar, the Academic Principal, Sri T. Pavan Kumar, the Administrative Principal and S. Radhakrishnan, First Officer (NCC), Madam Sajani and Sri M Ramakrishna NCC Masters have taken part in these celebrations.

During his address to the assembled students and teachers, Sri. Dr. G. Bharadwaja Naidu has advised that everyone should practice YOGA regularly to keep themselves fit and energetic in these days of hectic life. He reiterated  that Yoga can relieve one from stress and strain very effectively and enhances our self-confidence to a greater extent.

Greenwood celebrated International Yoga Day 2023.
This year, the theme for International Yoga Day 2023 is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ effectively encapsulating our collective aspiration for ‘One Earth, One Family, and One Future.’

. This was a great opportunity to imbibe the value of discipline. Yoga is a mental, physical, and spiritual practice that needs to be carried every day.

Students of primary and high school gathered in assembly and performed Surya namaskar to start the day with a positive body vibe. All the students have participated and showcased their pride in yoga.

The incalculable peace of doing the Asanas was visible in students’ performance. The day was full of excitement because of its uniqueness in our Greenwood family. The students performed Yoga asanas which was spellbound and engrossing.

Principal Mrs. Kavita Chawla addressed the assembly with his thoughtful provoking words to practice yoga on regular basis. Yoga is the true essence of our body and soul, this flavour should be embodied in our body to stay fit and healthy.

“Yoga is the journey, of the self, through the self, to the self.”
